Title: Fall Foliage Ride
Post by: DAMTALL on August 28, 2018, 09:04:48 PM
I know Peters Mill is only 6.5 miles long (unless there is a trail I missed), but the run is in some great tree covered roads, and you go through some nice roads to get there.  Plus, you might get a bigger crowd since it is so much closer than Flagpole.  I know it costs $5, but I think well worth it.  Plus there was a nice circle area that was open part way through that was a nice break area.  Then maybe doing a lunch somewhere close.  Just a thought!

I am looking forweard to this year as I missed last year with a broken shoulder.  I would be good with either site.  Is 10/27 confirmed?

I'd be in for that date and site.  Peters Mill would be nice for the fall ride.  That center clearing half way though is where the very narrow ATV tail comes into the OHV trail.  Not many ATVs on that part as their is an entire section south dedicated to ATVs and bikes.

I'm trying to think when was the last time I was at Peters Mill. It's been years! So, count me in unless I manage to destroy my last remaining Jeep before then.

What calendar the one posted on the 2018 events date forum says October 20th? Also on VA4WD.com it states the 20th

According to the President, they are doing the Fall Foliage Run at Flagpole this year.

I don't see the ride on the calendar link at the top of these pages at all. When is it?

I'm going camping the weekend of 10/20 so wouldn't be able to go then. If its flagpole I may need to consider getting my suspension work done before that run if I'm going to go. Actually can I get through the trails at flagpole with a tent on top of my Jeep without ripping it off? I got no garage, it just lives on the Jeep.

Are we going to do an official signup thread?

I'll throw my hat in the ring, WJ might be done, or perhaps *gasp* break in the Summit

Does anyone know specific timing of this?  Is it a half day, whole day, etc?

It's most of the day.  8am - 3pm would be a fair estimate.

If it's the 20th we're interested. If it is the 27th we'll be down in Newport News for Lacrosse. Which day is it?

Yeah... if I donít see anything by Wednesday Iíll just go kayak fishing. Too far to drive for a maybe. Definitely want to join in on something mild to get a feel for the club before joining officially and/or committing to a more extreme ride.

Would really love to do this, but without anything firm I'm going to need to start making other plans...

The mountain is still green due to weather.  A Fall foliage run would be pointless this early.

Oh it all balances out. Some years its green, some years most leaves are on the ground. Some years it's perfect.

But yeah, I'm guessing it's been cancelled for whatever reason.

Was still pretty green in Gettysburg over the weekend, lots of dead leaves for kindling was handy though.
