Replaced all 4 drum brakes today. Shoes and drums. The old ones actually didn't look that bad. A couple of the shoes were cracked and one set of hardware was siezed in the back. Got that all taken care of and took for drive around the block. Looks like I will need to bleed them again. Had to pump the brakes to get good stopping power. Course that could just be the manual brakes. I don't know. This is the first vehicle I've owned that was like this.
Also cleaned up my hub caps and put them on.

If it felt squishy at all, definitely get it bled again. (No TWSS comments please)

What master cylinder are you running?  The impala had uninspiring brakes until I got the Right Stuff mc. Holy crap they stop now.

Alex, please don't hurt me for saying this, but your ride is beautiful!  I love the look!  I wonder how I would fit in it?  ROTFL

Thanks for the compliments, but trust me it's no art. It's one of those "good from far" "far from good" type deals. She definitely looks better in the picture than in person. Still in work, although it has never been planned as a show queen. Hopefully I can get it to Dain's Scrambler status as a driver. We will see how well my patience holds up. LOL!

Got the radio wired up and working finally. I needed to get speakers for it and I didn't know if it even worked. Of course the speakers I bought didn't fit. So, I had to enlarge the openings. Got the speakers in and wired everything in. No sound. Radio lit up and I was able to control functions, but no sound. Figures. Cut out all the wires and removed the radio only to find that the connector was installed upside down. WtF? Connector is keyed, but was still able to be installed either direction. Re-connect all the wires and ensure the connector is in right. It works! LCD screen is not the best, but at least I don't have to cut the dash up to install a newer radio.

Well, took the grill off today to get the body/grill mount fixed. Rusted out so the grill and fenders weren't really being held by much. Trimmed out the rust, put in a filler plate and an over plate for added strength.  I'm waiting for the new body mount bushings to show up before I drill a new hole in it. Hopefully have everything next weekend.

Got all the body mounts replaced today. Luckily only had 1 that gave me trouble. Fortunately I had access to that one to get the bolt out. Replaced the rubber body mounts and the hardware. Also got the grill back on with new hardware. Just need to do some tweaking of the grill to get everything lined back up. Otherwise I am ready to move on to the suspension. Waiting on tax return to see what I will end up doing for that.

Got the front suspension in. Nothing in the rear suspension wanted to come loose, so I sprayed it down with more PB Blaster and I'll work on it tomorrow. It's hard to tell in the photo,  but it is a considerable difference.

Found the links at Tractor Supply and bolts at the hardware store.  I'll swap them out for greasable units later on. I just want to get this thing going again.

Well, the rear suspension is almost done.  It fought me all day. Had to use several cutting tools to get everything off. And putting the new springs on wasn't enjoyable.  Still have to put the shocks on, but they have a bushing in them that is the wrong size and I'll need to press them out. I threw in the towel for the day.

Here's a shot of the old mono-springs and the new multi-leaf

Happy Easter everyone!
