More updates. Diode definitely worked, however I have narrowed down my lean out backfire to low fuel pressure. The Novak Adapter fuel pump is a 5/16 fuel line setup that is supposed to push 58 psi. Running only get to 38 psi. I suspect that I will need to go to 3/8 fuel line and a bigger pump.

Smaller diameter line might need a high pressure pump to maintain the line pressure or go with a larger line and a higher volume pump.  It is a process and when it all is done you will be very happy with your rig.

To feed my AMC 258 I6 with the Mopar Performance MFI I needed to go to 3/8" fuel line with a 70-90 PSI; 40 gph pump and an adjustable fuel regulator set to 40 psi at idle (49 psi at zero vacuum). I did not change out the 5/16" fuel return line.

I realize I am running a very different system than you are - mine is a common rail, speed density, Multi-port Fuel Injection) on a smaller engine.... Anyway I offer this just as reference point.

Diode fixed the shut-off problems. Had to remove and reinstall the distributor to get additional timing to solve the backfire. Running about 18* advance at idle.
