I decided to go ahead and put in a new clutch and not do the transmission swap to an automatic. At least not at this point.

I am going to go ahead and order the clutch kit.  Hopefully I will be ready to install it in a couple of weekends. I know it wonít be this saturday as I will be at the S&S (and the clutch wonít be here yet.

Anyone want to come over and help?  Extra credit if you have experience with installing a clutch.

I watched Turkeyman replace my clutch a couple of years ago when we moved the drivetrain from one frame to another, but I canít remember what was done.

Let me know and I will work out the date.

Dain,

I will be more than happy to help - I have done this several times (understatement) fact of the matter is I will do it again before the CJ is back on the road (engine is disassembled & at the machine shop now). I have a clutch alignment tool for the BW T5 (10T spline) which may or may not work with your transmission. Most clutch kits include an alignment tool - this is a show stopper if you do not have one. I suggest purchasing a kit which includes pressure plate, throw out bearing, friction plate, alignment tool, and pilot bushing.

If you plan to replace the pilot bearing/bushing check the parts numbers & dimensions closely. The last one include in my kit (Luk) was the correct OD &  depth but several thousands too small ID. I spent several hours trying to seat the transmission shaft before measuring  Redfaced.

Indeed, I used a LUK clutch last go around. I had to get a different pilot too. The clutch is a good product. But there are differences in the pilot that can give you headaches. Look at the new throw out bearing well. A lot of them are junk lately. I ended up replacing mine with the best NAPA sells, when I replaced the trans last year. I had a slew of issues with Zoom clutches and their junk throw out bearings. After the 2nd or 3rd run at it I pitched the whole clutch set and bought the LUK.

If the clutch kit comes on Friday (Amazon 2 day), would anyone be up for helping on this Sunday?  Or would Memorial day weekend be better?  I may have to go to PA that weekend, but not sure yet.

I can not help this weekend sorry - racing Saturday & I (by way of my wife) have a series commitments Sunday. I am available either day the next weekend. And, the CJ should be ready for a shake down run to Ashburn.

I am going to replace brake calipers on Monday and will be willing to do the clutch if I have assistance.
