A couple items to consider:

U Haul policy is to only rent a trailer when you rent a suitable truck from them.

A tow dolly works - but if you have larger tires on the CJ you will likely have a problem.  The straps they give you on a dolly are for stock size tires.  33x12.50 a way too big for their straps.

You can rent a car trailer from other places around town for not much money.  They don't make you rent a truck.  Sometimes that's a better choice.

Of course flat towing is an option too, but a car trailer is best.

I have rented a car hauler from Uhaul many times to tow with my personal vehicle.  Last time was to get a TJ from NC.  Towed it with my Highlander.  Only requirements are that the tow vehicle is heavier than the towed combo, and you have a class 3 or better hitch and trailer light wiring. If you reserve on line they will tell you if the combo will work. +1 on using a trailer since they have brakes.

If someone out there knows of where you can buy used U-Haul trailers I would definitely consider it.  They're a pretty nice package being galvanized, low, brakes and all.  Though I guess the question is...why would U-Haul be selling a trailer anyways?

Normally, they don't.

I'd rather have a commercially available unit. Lighter(easier to pull), longer(handles better), more options for open center floor(repairs in field), and electric brakes rather than surge brakes.

Better surge brake than no brake!

You can search for used U-Haul trailers on their 'Truck sales' site...

https://www.uhaul.com/TruckSales/

But My guess is by the time they sell a trailer, it's pretty ragged out!

If your in the market for a real nice trailer, I'm thinking about buying an Aluminum trailer for towing with the RV so my PJ buggy hauler will be going up for sale.

My trailer was about $9,000 new so I'm looking for around $5500. That's less than what Scott paid for his and his trailer doesn't have near the options mine has
