Tranny drain plug right over top of an exhaust crossover that you have to custom build a tool to access. Moron engineering at its best.

Yup...huge PITA....especially now that you have old tranny fluid all over that crossover pipe.

Yeah - looks like they welded a little shield on top of the pipe but that just further reduces the distance between the pipe and the plug such that you have to make your own tool to get in there. I took an old 17mm Allen socket and cut it down to about 3/4” with a cutoff wheel so that I could get it in there and turn it with a wrench. Takes warming the tranny fluid up before draining off the table - it has to be stone cold when you drain or you will burn the heck out of yourself

You can bet that FCA’s shop handbook calls for an extra billable hour of labor to service the trans since they “have to drop the exhaust” to complete the job!

Yeah I wonder how far up that drives the price. All the more reason to learn to DIY. I’ll bet they charge over $300 by the time the smoke clears. I’m in about $45 including the fluid and the tool I hacked up
