If I was going for a restoration look, I would. But I am not. And they get in the way of using the bed so, I am not going to do it.

The front bolts to the roll bar. The rear has a stake that bolts to the bed side. If you look closely at a real steel tub, you will see two bolts or plugs depending on whether or not the rails are mounted or not.
